‘The Ghost of Tommy Atkins’

SOS – SUPPORT OUR serving and ex Service personnel.

See a play and support Peebles Royal British Legion

Everyone will be aware of their local Royal British Legion club and know that it provides a meeting place for ex military service personnel.

Some however are perhaps not aware of the ‘behind the scenes’ support that the RBL offers to those serving their country here and now.

The hard work of the RBL comes with a big price tag and the organisation relies heavily on public donations all year round, not simply at Poppy Appeal time.

In association with the Innerleithen Music Festival Penrith author Lawrence Nelson will present a special performance of his play ‘The Ghost of Tommy Atkins’ to raise funds for Peebles RBL.

The play, which Lawrence has presented on numerous occasions to raise funds for the RBL, tells the story of two Lancashire lads who volunteer to fight for their country at the First Battle of The Somme.

With `The Ghost of Tommy Atkins` you are not so much watching a searing play about friendship, loyalty that lasts beyond the grave and the futility of war as eavesdropping on an old man reminiscing with his boyhood friend. During the play you will become Tommy Atkins.

Lawrence will be available for any questions about the play following the performance if the festival timetable allows.

Not suitable for those under 16yrs. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Peebles RBL, so, why not SUPPORT OUR serving and ex Service personnel and see a play at this year’s Innerleithen Music Festival?
